NEPAL: SELF PRAISE IS NO “RECOMMENDATION”

The Nepali society is composed of various characters. Understandably, when the characters differ, their attitudes and leanings also differ automatically.

Thanks that Mother Nature has been still surviving with such differing views. After all she is mother and thus she has to understand the weaknesses of her children.

There are men in the society who would very much wish to listen to their own praise. Others would want that from others’ mouth.

There are yet some more who themselves act for themselves when others do not do a favor for him.

More or less, such habits are common among the human beings.

To come to the point, King Gyanendra concluded that he could alone bring about the panacea for all of the ailments of the country and suddenly usurped power.
He failed miserably because he could not gauge the mood of the SPA leaders plus those of the Maoists and above all-our big brother.

Likewise, Prime Minister Koirala too has a habit of talking very high of his own personality. Indeed he is a towering political persona, but then yet to talk high of himself and that too in a brazen manner is what I call self praise is no recommendation.

This time our prime minister not only talked high of himself but he did so at the cost of the Maoists.

I presume, there is no need to degrade others for the sake of acquiring self prestige and cheap popularity.

Koirala at the inaugural session of the SAARC conference that has just concluded bluntly said that it was him “alone” that could dare to bring in the “Terrorists” to the mainstream politics of this beleaguered country.

While Koirala was bagging accolades from his South Asian colleagues in Delhi, here in Kathmandu the Maoists appeared pretty annoyed at the manner Koirala presented them in the international fora.

The fact is that when Koirala was dubbing the Maoists as terrorists, the Maoists were already in the government led none less than by Koirala himself. So how come Koirala could collect the courage and demean the Maoists when they had already become a part and parcel of the country’s mainstream politics? A blunder indeed.

I presume, Indian Prime Minister Dr. Man Mohan Singh must have laughed upon listening at the manner Koirala self eulogized his performances. Who else better knows than Dr. Singh that how Koirala was made to succeed. If there is yet another person in India then it should be Shyam Saran who in effect maneuvered the entire “throw” the King game. He is a retired bureaucrat now. Let’s not forget what contributions were made by Indian envoy by Shiv Shanker Mukherjee. He is Lord Shiva’s two forms in one. He deserves more than what is being given to him by the Indian establishment. Ambassador to London! He should have been sent to Thimpu to bring democracy there. Not the time perhaps till a severe power crunch gripped India.

At best what Koirala did was that he led the entire movement and the Maoists trusted upon his tall political personality.

Koirala thinks that the Nepalese and the Maoists-who most of the time resided in Delhi leaving the cadres in the jungles-were fools.

NO we are not fools as Koirala claims or have in his sober mind.

How the Maoists could gulp this Koirala bitter pill administered to their entire political paraphernalia in Delhi will have to be watched.

But then yet Prachanda appears not to have taken in good taste what Koirala said of his party in Delhi. Prachanda too knows well how Koirala was made to succeed. Thanks Delhi that your charismatic role mesmerized Nepali leaders who began concluding that they alone brought about such a tumultuous change in this country.

Let’s admit the fact that had the Maoists not put its entire energy and courage during the popular movement-2 last year around this time, Koirala would still have been in the Ratnapark-to Ratnapark demonstrations. Thanks the Maoists that the movement took a different shape and the King had to yield.

It remains yet to be seen what price we the people will have to pay for all that India did not so in the distant past.

I would thus appeal Koirala to abandon such habits wherein he has to demean others for the sake of enhancing self-image and prestige.

The fact is that Koirala is a towering persona by all means. We salute him for all what he did for the country. This is taken for granted. He need not come so down that people begin thi9nking different of him. That’s all.
